Sean Manaea 2013 LHP Indiana State

Sean Manaea, a 2013 draft eligible LHP from Indiana State has exploded this summer at the Cape and I was lucky enough to catch his final start of the summer, in which he did not disappoint. Standing at 6'5 215 pounds, Manaea can still project as he has a very skinny frame. In this game his 4 seam FB sat between 92-94 MPH, but when he velo dropped a tick, he gained much more arm side run on his ball, quite possibly a 2-seam FB. He was missing bats against every hitter he faced and was able to locate north and south as well as east and west on the plate. With his FB being unhittable, I would say it is a +FB as the hitters are reacting to his FB as though it is coming in at 100+, I was not able to see much off speed in the game, just a CH at 86 (which I heard was his best off speed this summer) and two SL at 82 and 86 which he is still getting a feel for I was told but they were on the mark this game. Hitters looked lost and appeared to be guessing as evident by his 49 pitches through 5 innings, with 8 of his outs being recorded by strikeout and no ball being squared up. His mechanics were fluid, staying tall on his backside and getting good extension out front on his pitches. His delivery was effortless, has a quick 3/4 arm slot and he seemed to repeat delivery well, even with his height. All in all, with a solid spring at Indiana State, Sean Manaea has a very good chance to go in the top ten in the 2013 draft, if not number 1 overall.
2012 Cape Cod Baseball League Stats:
5-1, 1.22 ERA, 51.2 IP, 85:7 K to BB ratio and has allowed only 22 hits this summer
